Monday, July 01, 2019
Prior to joining MIT in January 2019, William was the director of orthopedics at Palmetto Health-USC Medical Group. William holds a Master of Health Administration from MUSC and a Bachelor of Arts from Wofford College. Get to know William with our quick Q&A:
What drew you to Members’ Insurance Trust?
I’ve worked in health care for the past seven years, mainly in hospital and physician practice operations. I’ve always had a passion for helping others and solving problems. At MIT, I’m able to draw on my experiences as a health care administrator to create awareness and engage our membership in their health care decisions so that they can get the right care, in the right setting, and at the right cost. Additionally, I have always had an interest in working with the business community. The MIT product is a perfect intersection of the health care and business communities, and I’m excited to be a part of the team.
How do you see MIT growing in the near future?
MIT has created a special niche in the marketplace by providing health insurance to our member groups. While we are proud of MIT’s record over the last three decades, we are also excited about the opportunity to bring our top-notch customer service to more individuals in South Carolina. As a physician-led organization, there are still groups to whom we can provide valuable benefits and customer service to improve the overall health status of our membership.
What goals do you have for MIT?
Serving our membership and member groups is our number one priority. We will constantly strive to better serve our membership by providing market-relevant benefits and tools that allow our member groups to conduct business more efficiently. Additionally, we will engage, educate, and support our members in their health care decisions to ensure they receive the best care.
When you aren’t in the office, how do you spend your time?
When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time with my wife, Kali, and our one-year-old son, Jack. We are involved in our community through various boards, Shandon United Methodist Church, and the Family Shelter in Columbia. Finally, we love watching the South Carolina Gamecocks and Wofford Terriers.
