Voluntary Critical Illness Insurance
Facing a serious illness at any age can be challenging—physically, emotionally, and financially. While primary health insurance may cover many expenses, out-of-pocket costs can still add up quickly. Critical Illness Insurance provides a lump-sum cash benefit upon diagnosis of a covered illness, giving members the flexibility to use the funds however they choose.
Total Trust Perk (Embedded) Coverage
- MIT provides a $5,000 Critical Illness Insurance policy at no cost to the Primary MIT member.
Additional Voluntary Critical Illness Coverage Options for MIT Members
Members may purchase additional coverage for themselves or their dependents at reduced rates:
- Primary MIT Member (Employee) Coverage: Increments of $5,000, up to a maximum of $20,000.
- Spousal Coverage: Increments of $5,000, up to 100% of employee coverage (maximum $20,000). Premiums are based on the employee’s age.
- Dependent Child Coverage: Increments of $2,500, up to 50% of employee coverage (maximum $10,000).
Voluntary Critical Illness Coverage for Non-Members
Employers may also offer a standalone Critical Illness Insurance policy for employees who do not have MIT coverage. Coverage specifics are the same as the coverage options noted above.
Wellness Benefit
The Voluntary Critical Illness policy includes a $100 wellness benefit per covered individual, including dependents. For details on how to submit a claim and receive the wellness benefit, click HERE.
Voluntary Accident Insurance
An accidental injury—such as a fracture, dislocation, or concussion—can disrupt daily life in many ways. While medical insurance helps cover doctor visits and treatment costs, Accident Insurance provides an additional cash benefit to help with expenses after an accident.
How It Works
With Accident Insurance, members receive payments associated with a covered injury and related services. (Click HERE to review what’s covered.) These funds can be used however you choose—whether for medical costs not covered by your health plan or everyday living expenses such as mortgage payments, utilities, or groceries.
Total Trust Perk (Embedded) Coverage
- MIT provides a Standard Accident Insurance policy at no cost to the Primary MIT member.
Additional Voluntary Accident Insurance Coverage Options for MIT Members
Members may purchase additional coverage for themselves or their dependents at reduced rates:
- Employee Coverage: Additional benefits for the primary covered member.
- Dependent Coverage: Options available for spouses and children.
- Provides a cash benefit in the event of a non-work-related accident.
- Funds can be used for everyday needs such as bills, rent, or car payments.
Voluntary Accident Insurance Coverage for Non-Members
Employers may also offer a standalone Accident Insurance policy for employees who do not have MIT medical coverage.
Wellness Benefit
The Voluntary Accident Insurance policy includes a $100 wellness benefit per covered individual, including dependents. For details on how to submit a claim and receive the wellness benefit, click HERE.
