2025 Update and Plan Coverages

Tuesday, January 14, 2025

Greetings from the South Carolina Medical Association (SCMA) and the SCMA Members’ Insurance Trust (MIT). MIT continues to offer affordable health insurance and related benefits to SCMA employer-members, their employees, and families for over 40 years. As a self-funded multiple employer welfare arrangement (MEWA) supported by SCMA, MIT presents a distinctive option for smaller employers interested in the advantages of a large group health plan. Our plan, created by physicians for healthcare practices, is dedicated to providing a personalized benefit package and high-quality customer service. We are excited to share some important updates and enhancements for the 2025 Plan year.

PHARMACY BENEFIT MANAGEMENT: EXPRESS SCRIPTS

Annually, MIT performs a review of your pharmacy benefits to ensure we have the best partner to enhance medication accessibility and streamline pharmacy services for our members. We are excited to announce that MIT chose Express Scripts for your pharmacy benefit management. Members may go to the Express Script/MIT open enrollment website for formulary information. NEW THIRD-PARTY ADMINISTRATOR: BLUE SOLUTIONS ADMINISTRATOR

MIT moved to Blue Solutions Administrator (BSA) as the third-party administrator for your medical benefits, providing our members access to: The strongest nationwide PPO network (BlueCard) to deliver seamless experience when traveling outside of South Carolina. A comprehensive platform (My Health Toolkit) providing members with essential resources to effectively manage and navigate their benefits. A robust health and wellness discount program (BLUE 365). An enhanced population health program to provide wellness promotion and risk management to help our members meet their specific needs and goals. This change underscores our dedication to improving member satisfaction and optimizing their overall healthcare journey.

MOBILE APPLICATIONS

MIT will use both a medical and pharmacy card in 2025 to help better manage member benefits and keep your cost down. To make this change easier, members have access to digital cards with the BSA and Express Scripts mobile apps. A variety of tools offer convenience at your fingertips like saving your benefits cards in a digital wallet, managing your health, or organizing your medications.

PLAN OPTIONS

To meet your needs, MIT offers 10 plan options that fall under three plan types:

  • High Deductible Health Plan: Eligible for a Health Saving Account (HSA) that allows for pre-tax deposits to help pay the deductible and tax-free medical expenses.
  • Major Medical: The embedded deductible individual design allows a single family member that incurs high medical expenses access to medical benefits sooner.
  • Specialty: Adds a copay component to the coinsurance-only designs allowing members to get first dollar benefits for office visits and prescription drug coverage without meeting the deductible.
